Small-business budgeting

Owners do not need another dashboard — they need a calm, repeatable routine. This track teaches the operating budget, the cash-flow calendar, and the monthly review habit that help small businesses in the United States plan a season ahead instead of reacting to the last bank statement.

WHAT THIS TRACK IS ABOUT

One hour a month keeps the plan alive

Most small-business budgeting fails because it is built once a year and then forgotten. Our approach is deliberately small: a one-page operating budget, a rolling cash-flow calendar, and a monthly review that takes less than an hour. Owners who keep this rhythm tell us they sleep better during slow seasons — because they saw them coming on paper.

Everything is taught with examples from typical US service and product businesses: shops, studios, contractors, agencies, and online sellers.

THE OWNER'S ROUTINE

Three tools, one habit

Tool 1

Operating budget

Expected revenue, fixed and variable costs, and the owner's own pay — on one page. This is the plan you compare reality against each month.

Tool 2

Cash-flow calendar

When money actually arrives and leaves, week by week. Timing is where small businesses live or die, especially in seasonal markets.

Tool 3

Monthly review

A 45-minute appointment with your own numbers: compare plan to actual, explain the difference in two sentences, adjust the next month.

HOW WE TEACH IT

Session flow for business topics

SCENE · 15 MIN

A believable business

Each session follows one fictional-but-realistic business through a season — a landscaping company, a studio, a café — so the numbers stay concrete.

MODEL · 35 MIN

Build the tool together

We construct that month's budget or cash-flow calendar line by line in the shared template. You mirror it in your copy.

TWIST · 25 MIN

The surprise month

We drop in a realistic curveball — a slow week, a big invoice that slips — and practice how the tool helps you respond calmly.

TAKEAWAY · 10 MIN

Your next review

You book your own monthly review in your calendar before the session ends. The habit is the deliverable.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before joining

My business is brand new. Is this too advanced?

No. The beginner sessions start from “what is a budget even for?” and build up. Many owners join before their first full year and use the templates from day one.

Is this for LLCs, sole proprietors, or both?

Both. The planning method is the same; only the tax-related details differ, and we deliberately stay out of tax specifics — that is work for your accountant.

Will this help me get a loan or attract investors?

Indirectly, yes: lenders and investors want to see clear plans. But we teach planning, not fundraising strategy, and we make no promises about outcomes.

Do sessions include my real financial data?

Never. You always work with sample scenarios and your own private copy of the template. No one on our side ever sees your business numbers.

What if I miss the live session?

Registered learners get a replay link for seven days plus the templates. Members can revisit any session in the on-demand library while their membership is active.
